SELECTION PROCESS
To uphold the values of transparency, fairness, and high performance, all QLD SUNS coaching and support staff appointments—including Assistant Coaches, Managers, Statisticians, and Selectors — will follow a clearly defined and consistent selection process. Appointment panels will include an independent high-performance representative, a QLD SUNS representative, and an additional person with relevant experience and qualifications to ensure objective and well-rounded decision-making. From 2025/26, minimum accreditation standards will also apply, with Head Coaches required to hold (or be working towards) Advanced Netball Australia accreditation. These enhancements reflect our commitment to building a culture of excellence, where all appointments are made based on merit, expertise, and alignment with national standards.
TRIAL STRUCTURE
Mixed Trials
To elevate the competitiveness and inclusivity of the Open Mixed squad, trials will now align with the Mixed League competition — offering broader access to athletes, including increased female participation following the conclusion of the Hart Sapphire Series. This strategic shift brings renewed energy and visibility to the Mixed program, strengthening its relevance and standing within the netball community while ensuring a deeper, more representative talent pool for selection.
Underage and Mens Trials
Reimagining our regional underage trials in North Queensland allows us to deliver a more inclusive and inspiring experience for athletes across the state. By adopting a camp-style format with invited coaches delivering specialist skill sessions, we not only enhance development opportunities but also ensure genuine equity and access for regional athletes. This model strengthens talent identification, giving rising stars a chance to shine closer to home while also providing a platform to gauge interest and ability among Open Men in the region. Athletes identified through this process will be invited to continue their journey at the SEQ trials, reinforcing our commitment to a truly representative QLD SUNS program.

TRAINING PROGRAM
The 2025 QLD SUNS training program is built to foster excellence, connection, and readiness across all squads. Pre-season training will commence on 12 October and run through to 14 December, delivered as a 10-week block. During this phase, all age groups will train together as a squad, creating a strong sense of unity and shared purpose while allowing coaches to observe athlete development across the board. Weekly sessions will focus on skills, conditioning, and strength, with key match scenario training to simulate game-day intensity. A dedicated rest and recovery period from 15 December to 11 January is included to support athlete wellbeing and manage load.

Training will resume on 12 January, with all teams beginning with testing, induction, and a cultural values session. From this point forward, each age group will train twice weekly—one midweek session on Wednesday evenings, and one session alternating between Saturday and Sunday. This structure ensures consistent athlete development and preparation while supporting team-specific goals and performance outcomes.
We invite passionate, values-driven coaches and support personnel to express their interest in shaping this exciting chapter of the QLD Suns. Let’s continue to raise the bar for men’s and mixed netball — together.
